Nuclear Engineer (Fuel & Core Design)
The Nuclear Engineer (Fuel & Core Design) role is part of Entergy's Nuclear Fuels Department at our corporate office in Jackson, Mississippi. Working with fuel vendors, you'll help design and license nuclear fuel bundles and reactor core loading patterns that support Entergy's nuclear fleet. In this role, you'll contribute to safe, reliable, and efficient core designs through reactor core design, fuel management, and reactor physics analyses.
What you’ll do
- Manage core reload projects associated with the design and licensing of fuel bundles and reactor cores.
- Maintain independent core models using Studsvik methods and CASMO/SIMULATE codes.
- Provide reactor physics and fuel criticality expertise supporting the analytical and design basis of Entergy nuclear plants.
- Leverage operating experience and industry best practices to ensure fuel is designed and operated safely and reliably in accordance with plant design and licensing requirements, within design limits, and with sustainable, failure-free performance.
What you’ll bring
Education
B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering strongly preferred.
Experience
- Engineer I — 0+ years
- Engineer II — 2+ years, or 1+ with an M.S.
- Engineer III — 4+ years
- Senior Engineer — 6+ years, or 5+ with a PE license
- Experience with nuclear design software packages (e.g., CASMO/SIMULATE, SCALE, MCNP).
- Experience with programming languages (e.g., Python, FORTRAN, Visual Basic) and shell scripting in UNIX/Linux environments.
For Engineer II and above, candidates should have
experience in reactor engineering, safety analysis, core design, or other
nuclear fuel-related fields.
