What you’ll do
- Design and develop precision optical subsystems and custom metrology solutions for KLA’s semiconductor inspection and reticle-inspection platforms.
- Create optical models, perform tolerance and sensitivity analyses, and translate system requirements into practical optical architectures.
- Develop alignment methodologies and build, align, test, and qualify optical assemblies from prototype through production release.
- Plan and execute experiments to characterize image quality, illumination, stray light, stability, and overall optical-system performance.
- Integrate optical hardware with mechanical, electrical, software, controls, and systems engineering teams, then troubleshoot complex subsystem and system-level issues.
- Select optical components, materials, detectors, light sources, and suppliers while balancing performance, manufacturability, reliability, cost, and schedule.
- Document designs and test results, lead technical reviews and root-cause investigations, and support continuous improvement through production and sustaining engineering.
What we’re looking for
- A bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate in Optical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or a related discipline; for the Senior Optical Engineer role, the minimum is a doctorate with 0 years, master’s with 3 years, or bachelor’s with 5 years of related experience.
- Strong experience in optical system design, geometric and physical optics, imaging systems, illumination, and optical metrology.
- Proficiency with optical modeling and analysis tools such as Code V, Zemax, or LightTools, including tolerance analysis and performance optimization.
- Hands-on experience aligning, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting complex optical assemblies and precision opto-mechanical systems in a laboratory environment.
- Ability to analyze experimental data and automate modeling or test workflows using MATLAB, Python, or comparable technical computing tools.
- Sound engineering judgment in component and supplier selection, design for manufacturability, reliability, calibration, and transition from development to production.
- Clear technical communication, ownership, accuracy, customer focus, and the ability to collaborate effectively across optical, mechanical, electrical, software, systems, manufacturing, service, and supplier teams.
You can help shape the future of technology — KLA solutions enable the production of virtually every electronic device in the world.
